New Delhi: India defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in the semi-final of the U-19 Asia Cup at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on December 6, Friday. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first but Indian bowlers shined with the ball in the initial overs as they removed Lanka’s openers for just 8 runs.
Chetan Sharma removed Dulnith Sigera and the previous match’s centurion Vimath Dinsura in two consecutive deliveries. Indian bowlers delivered a sensational bowling performance and bowled out Sri Lanka for 173 runs. Chetan took three wickets, and Kiran Chormale and Ayush Mhatre got two wickets each against Sri Lanka.
Lakvin Abeysinghe displayed a great batting performance and scored a gusty 69 runs with the help of three fours and two sixes. Sharujan stitched a crucial 93-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Abeysinghe but Indian bowlers did a fantastic job to wrap Sri Lanka under 180.
In response, Indian young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a quick-fire half-century. He smashed Sigera for 27 runs in the second over of the innings. Ayush Mhatre also stood up with Suryavanshi and both added 91 runs partnership for the opening wicket in just 8.3 overs.
Suryavanshi ended his innings with six fours and five sixes by scoring 67 runs in 36 balls. India chased down the 174-run target in just 22 overs.
India will face Bangladesh in U-19 Asia Cup 2024 final
India will face the defending champion Bangladesh in the U-19 Asia Cup final. Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in the first semi-final of the U-19 Asia Cup 2024. Bangladesh bowled out Pakistan for just 116 runs and this is the first instance that Pakistani batters failed to score runs in the tournament.
Bangladesh easily chased down the target under 23 overs to set up a final with India on December 8, Sunday. Bangladesh will look to win the title for second consecutive time, no team have achieved this feat other than India in the U-19 Asia Cup.
