New Delhi: Pedri’s tournament came to an end last Friday when he was seriously injured by a strong challenge from Toni Kroos during the opening minutes of La Roja’s 2-1 victory against Germany in the quarterfinal. After learning that one of his Spain teammate would not be able to play in the remainder of the European Championship, Rodri has demanded increased player protection.

Pedri’s midfield partner Rodri stated that, “As football players, we always want to be protected.” further adding to it- “It is the refree’s job to ensure that”. However, Pedri’s injury turned out to be a pivotal point in the game against Germany as it was Dani Olmo replaced him who scored the first goal for Spain while he also put in the cross for the winning goal.
Spain have the depth in their squad, but one of the major problems that they might befacing in the next round is their suspension problems. The absence of Dani Carvajal could be a a major issue but they also have the experienced Jesus Navas who can guide the Spanish defensive line well.
Robin Le Normand is another player who will miss out on the semis as he recieved a booking in the previous game against Germany. However, De la Fuente has his options ready, as he can play either the experienced Nacho Fernandez or Daniel Vivian who looked pretty solid in the group stage game against Albania.
