UEFA Nations League 2024/25: Bosnia and Netherlands draw; Hungary frustrate Germany

New Delhi: We are finally through with the third night of the Nations League where Bosnia managed to keep their composure and drew against a very confident, yet wasteful Nethertlands while the same was the case with Germany, who were held on by a stubborn Hungary side to a draw. The other results involved Sweden absolutely thrashing Azerbaijan, with Viktor Gyokeres starring the show yet again, and Wales also picking up a big win against Iceland. Here’s a look art how the scorelines shaped tonight.

Bosnia 1-1 Netherlands

With a 1-1 tie and equal honors at the end of the year, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands’ 2024 campaigns come to an end as the final whistle blows! The Oranje led 1-0 at the half, with better chances out of the two sides and nearly extended their lead with goals from Brobbey, Lang, Rensch, Gakpo, and Hato, but the hosts applied the most pressure and ultimately received their full compensation! Flekken palmed Dzeko’s shot straight into the path of Demirovic, who headed in to make it 1-1. Dzeko had three chances to equalize, including one goal out.

Bosnia-Herzegovina will close 2024 with their heads held high after a fierce performance in Zenica, even though they were unable to secure their first victory of the year. The Dragons appeared to have the better chance of winning the match as more attempts from Dzeko and Sunjic went astray.

Hungary 1-1 Germany

Hungary manage to draw 1-1 with Germany in Budapest thanks to a penalty kick from Szoboszlai in the 99th minute. As the victors of Group A3, the visitors were already eliminated. In March, they will face either Croatia, Italy, the Netherlands, or Denmark in the two-leg quarterfinals. Before three aggressive substitutions energized the away team, Nagelsmann’s drastically altered squad hardly posed a danger to the opponent goal.

With 14 minutes remaining, Nagelsmann’s squad took the lead thanks to Nmecha’s first goal for his nation after Havertz’s thundering volley was stopped by the post. After a VAR review, the referee gave a last-minute penalty after Kata’s strike struck Koch’s arm, seemingly ending the game. Szoboszlai chipped coolly down the middle to grab a share of the spoils after making no mistake from 12 yards out. In order to stay in the top division in the upcoming year, Hungary will now have to contend with a two-leg playoff.
