UEFA Nations League: Kylian Mbappe scores 50th international goal during Germany vs France third-place match

New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe scored his 50th goal for France during the UEFA Nations League third-place match against Germany at MPHArena in Stuttgart on Sunday, June 8. The Real Madrid forward is just one goal away from equalling Thierry Henry’s record and sharing the second place in France’s all-time top scorers list. Olivier Giroud is leading the list with 57 goals.

Mbappe made his debut for the French national team back in 2017 and has gone on to make 90 appearances for Les Bleus. He was a crucial part of the squad that won the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and the Nations League in 2021.

He scored the equalising goal for France in the 45th minute of the match, when Aurélien Tchouaméni swung in a cross that Germany’s Joshua Kimmich failed to clear. The loose ball fell to Mbappe, who cut inside and calmly slotted a shot past goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to put France ahead just before halftime.

France’s all-time scorers
Olivier Giroud – 137 appearances – 57 goals
Thierry Henry – 124 appearances – 51 goals
Kylian Mbappe – 90* appearances – 50 goals
Antoine Griezmann – 137 appearances – 44 goals
Michel Platini – 72 appearances – 41 goals

Mbappe reacts to PSG’s Champions League triumph

Speaking ahead of the France vs Germany match, the Real Madrid forward talked about PSG’s maiden Champions League triumph and said that he didn’t leave too soon and he’s not bitter. PSG defeated Inter Milan 5-0 to clinch their first-ever Champions League title in Munich on May 31.

“I didn’t leave too soon; my story with PSG was over. I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road. PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn’t affect me. I was happy; I think they deserved it”  Mbappé said during the press conference.

Mbappe is now just one goal away from equalling Thierry Henry’s record and sharing the second place in France’s all-time top scorers list.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
