New Delhi: Unseeded Japanese duo of Masamichi Imamura and Rio Noguchi bagged the Delhi Open ATP doubles title after beating second seeds Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha and Courtney John Lock in the final at the DLTA Complex on Saturday. Imamura and Noguchi stunned their opponents 6-4, 6-3 in match which saw their dominance right from the word go.

The Japanese pair, apart from showcasing class, also displayed a high level of resilience and precision, which helped them break their opponents early in both the sets to sign off with a remarkable manner at the ATP Challenger 75 event. Apart seeing the pair play, it did not seem like it was an unseeded duo of players dominating on the court.

Japanese pair takes control from the outset

Imamura and Noguchi took control right from the outset, taking breaks in the third and fifth games to claim a 4-1 lead. While their opponents also fought back with a break of their own in the sixth game, closing the gap to 4-3, the Japanese pair did not let their hard work go down as they held firmly to take the first set 6-4 in a commanding manner.

The second set looked like a replica of the first as it followed a similar pattern with breaks in the first and fifth games which proved to decisive. Despite an effort from Poonacha and Lock to turnaround the game, a double fault on a match point helped the Japanese duo sealed the contest at the end.

Meanwhile, French tennis player Kyrian Jacquet extended his remarkable run in the singles event by displacing Czech top seed Vit Kopriva in straight sets in the semifinals. The winner of the singles tournament also rakes in 75 crucial ATP points. The Delhi Open 2025 is an ATP Challenger 75 tournament organised by the All India Tennis Association and the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association.
