New Jersey: A woman has sued the American Airlines after being sexually assaulted by another passenger on her flight.
The US woman has blamed the airline for not ensuring her safety on flight.
US Woman Sexually Assaulted by Co-Passenger on Flight
A woman from New Jersey has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines after being sexually assaulted by a passenger on the flight.
According to a leading English daily, the incident occurred a couple of years ago on August 26, 2022 on a flight to Newark Liberty International Airport from Charlotte in North Carolina.
Shortly after take-off, the victim fell asleep and was woken up to a horrific experience. The lawsuit said that she found a passenger’s arm inside her pants and his hand forcing hers; she said that the man had covered both their hands with his black puffer jacket.
The woman alleged that the passenger was ‘digitally penetrating’ her while she was sleeping, leaving her in shock and panic; she also said that the man then climbed on top of her but she could muster up the courage and strength to push him away.
She went on to say in the lawsuit that he then offered water to her in order to downplay the assault and again began to force her; he stopped only when a flight attendant approached them.
Woman Files Lawsuit Against American Airlines
On her request, the flight attendant changed her seat and on landing, the accused passenger was escorted off the plane, following which both of their statements were recorded.
The woman, who has sued the American Airlines for not ensuring her safety on the flight, has said in the lawsuit, “unknown whether the Perpetrator was taken into custody and/or ever charged with the sexual assault of Plaintiff.”
Responding to the suit filed, the American Airlines in a statement has said that they are looking into the details of the flight and lawsuit and that the safety and comfort of the customers is their top priority.
