Vande Bharat Express: Discover its longest-running route!

New Delhi: The Vande Bharat Express train network is expanding. As of January 2025, the network has a fleet of 136 trains serving most parts of the country. The Vande Bharat trains have exceeded major metropolitan areas, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata. These areas connect to more regional and smaller cities to enhance national connectivity.

Vande Bharat is a semi-high-speed train created and produced in India as part of the ‘Make in India’ programme. Its design allows passengers a more comfortable, faster, and safer experience, especially on a long-distance journey.

Vande Bharat longest route: Delhi to Varanasi

Vande Bharat’s first train was launched on February 15, 2019, and covered the Delhi-Varanasi route. But did you know that it is also the longest Vande Bharat route? In 2024, Delhi-Patna Vande Bharat became the longest route, but it was short-lived as a special Diwali Vande Bharat Express train ran between the two cities.

Though the first Vande Bharat Express train was launched in 2019, the Vande Bharat 2.0 train was launched in 2023 on the Delhi-Varanasi route.

The upgraded Vande Bharat Express 2.0 offers an enhanced travel experience thanks to its advanced anti-collision Kavach system. This new version features improved amenities such as more legroom, better toilets, and chairs that can rotate 180 degrees.

Previously, the train operated five days a week, excluding Mondays and Thursdays. With Vande Bharat 2.0, service now includes Mondays, while Thursdays are reserved for track maintenance.

Passengers in the executive class who use the modular 180-degree chairs have praised the new seating.
