Virat Kohli to fire against England? A look at India star’s stellar record in T20 World Cup semis

New Delhi: Virat Kohli’s form has been a huge concern for India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The senior batter has failed to get going as an opener and continues to struggle for consistency. Kohli recorded his second duck in the tournament on Monday as he failed to open his account in India’s final Super Eight clash against Australia.

Kohli has so far managed only 66 runs in six matches in the T20 World Cup 2024 in what has been an abysmal campaign for the star batter. He headed into the tournament after a fabulous campaign for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024 where he finished as the highest run-getter with a whopping 741 runs. However, Kohli has failed to replicate his form in the showpiece event.

Kohli started his campaign with a dismal score of 1 run in India’s opener against Ireland before managing only 4 runs in the high-profile clash against Pakistan. The Team India star scored 24 runs against Afghanistan and followed it up with a 37-run knock against Bangladesh where he got off to a good start but failed to convert it into a big score.

Kohli was expected to deliver against Australia but got dismissed on a duck, failing to open his account in the big game. He might not have made significant contributions to India’s unbeaten run to the semi-finals but Kohli remains a vital cog in the batting line-up and the team management will be hoping for a big knock from the senior batter against England on Thursday.

Virat Kohli’s brilliant record in T20 World Cup semi-finals

Kohli has a brilliant record for India in the T20 World Cup semi-finals and will be hoping to keep his dominant run intact when he comes out to bat against England on Thursday. The former India skipper has scored a half-century in all three semi-finals that he has featured in the T20 World Cup and has an excellent track record for India.

Kohli bagged the Player of the Match award in the 2014 T20 World Cup semi-final where he hammered 72 off 44 balls to help India beat South Africa by six wickets after successfully chasing down the target of 173 runs. Kohli slammed a brilliant knock of 89 runs off 47 balls in the 2016 T20 World Cup semi-final. However, India ended up on the losing side against West Indies.

In the last edition of the tournament in 2022, Kohli top-scored for India with 50 off 40 balls. However, the Men in Blue once again failed to defend the total and ended up on the losing side. Kohli has an impressive 211 runs in just three matches in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup and will be hopeful of continuing his stellar run against England.

Team India star Virat Kohli has a terrific record in T20 World Cup semi-finals and will be hoping to bounce back in the upcoming clash against England on Thurday.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
