New Delhi: Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam endured a disastrous outing as Bangladesh stunned Pakistan in the 2nd Test in Rawalpindi to clinch a historic 2-0 clean sweep in the two-match series. After his flop show in the first Test where Pakistan were handed a shock defeat by 10 wickets, Babar’s poor show continued in the must-win 2nd Test as he managed scores of 31 and 11 in the two innings.
The expectations were high from Babar in the Test series against Bangladesh with the captaincy burden off his shoulders. However, the star batter looked far from his best and struggled against the Bangladesh pacers. Babar was dismissed twice by young Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana in the series. Rana, who made head turns with his raw pace, troubled the former Pakistan skipper consistently.
Babar’s poor form was one of the major reasons behind Pakstan’s shock 2-0 series defeat against Bangladesh as Shan Masood & Co. hit a new low. Bangladesh, who registered their first-ever Test victory against Pakistan in the series opener, went on to secure their maiden Test series win against the hosts after earning back-to-back victories in the two Test matches.
Babar managed to aggregate an abysmal 64 runs in the Test series against Bangladesh in what was a forgetful outing for the ex-Pakistan captain. Babar, who has often earned comparisons with Team India superstar Virat Kohli for his batting heroics, has suffered a huge slump in form in the longest format. While Kohli too hasn’t been at his best in the longest format recently, he still has far better numbers compared to Babar.
Babar Azam vs Virat Kohli in their last 10 Test innings
Babar has managed only 190 runs in his last 10 Test innings for Pakistan at a shambolic average of 19. His numbers have gone drastically down in his last few Test matches, seriously damaging his reputation of being Pakistan’s most prolific batter across all formats. His poor form has also put Pakistan’s chances of making it to the World Test Championship (WTC) in jeopardy.
Babar’s scores in his last 10 Test innings read – 21, 14, 1, 41, 26 and 23 against Australia and 0,22, 31 and 11 against Bangladesh.
On the other hand, Kohli despite not being at his best, has amassed 631 runs in his last ten innings at an excellent average of over 60, including 2 centuries and a couple of half-centuries. Kohli slammed a brilliant knock of 186 runs against Australia in Ahmedabad and notched up a 121-run knock against West Indies in Port of Spain.
Kohli has scored 441 runs more than Babar in his last ten innings compared to the former Pakistan captain. Like Babar, Kohli too underwent a rough patch in his Test career and his struggles lasted around 3 years where he went without scoring a century. However, Kohli ended a three-year-long wait for his 28th Test hundred last year and there has been no looking back ever since for the star batter.
Babar Azam has suffered a drastic slump in form and has struggled to score runs consistently in Test cricket.
