New Delhi: Star batter Virat Kohli had an unfortunate end to his short innings on the second day of the first Test match against Bangladesh on Friday. Kohli was batting on 17 during India’s second innings when a delivery from Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck his pads directly. The Indian batter moved forward to defend the ball but failed to do so.
Spinner Miraz made an appeal for lbw and the on-field umpire obliged to the request giving the decision in favour of the bowler. Kohli did have a brief discussion with his teammate Shubman Gill, who was at the other end, regarding the decision but then started walking back to the pavilion without taking a review.
However, after the decision, the replays showed that Kohli got an inside edge and if at all he would have gone for a review, it would have turned in his favour as the umpire would have overturned the decision. To everyone’s utter disappointment, this did not happen and Kohli was the third wicket India lost in their second innings. As soon as the camera turned towards the Indian dressing room, skipper Rohit Sharma was seen visibly frustrated by Kohli’s decision of not going for a review.

India in driver’s seat
The first day’s rescue knocks from Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja helped India adopt an aggressive mindset on the second day as well and what followed was positive results. When stumps were called on Day 2 at Chennai, India were comfortably placed at 81 for 3, with a massive lead of 308 runs in their pocket.
With 7 more wickets remaining and Rishabh Pant and Gill solid on the crease, India would aim to enhance their lead considerably on the third day so as to take the full control of the series opener. Meanwhile, Bangladesh will need a miracle from here on to emerge victorious in the match.
