New Delhi: Buoyed centuries of opener Georgia Voll (101) and Ellyse Perry (105), Australia Women routed India by 122 runs in their second ODI to claim the series with a match to spare in Brisbane on Sunday.
The hosts elected to bat and posted a huge score of 371/8 for the highest score against India in ODIs. Australia then bowled out the Indians for 249 in 44.5 overs.
“We got some partnership in between, we had a positive mindset, but we were short by few runs,” India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said after their loss.
“We created few opportunities but couldn’t take them, we should give credit to them for how they batted. We need to think about our plans how we will be bowling in next game. We need to bat full 50 overs, we have to come up with better plans.”
Total domination
Australia were in command right from the start as Phoebe Litchfield (60) and Voll put together a 130-run opening stand. After Litchfield’s departure, Voll and perry joined in the run-making, compiling a 92-run stand.
Perry then continued with Beth Mooney (56) for a 98-run partnership as Indian bowlers were bereft of ideas of how to stop them. In her second ODI, Voll hit 12 boundaries in her 87-ball knock, while Perry clubbed six sixes and seven four in 75 balls.
India’s leg-spinner Priya Mishra (1/88) and off-spinner Minnu Mani (2/71) conceded far too many runs. In the end they claimed a few wickets but it was too late by then.
Saima Thakor (3/62) was India’s most successful while Renuka Singh (1/78) and Deepti Sharma (1/59) also chipped in.
During their run chase, only Richa Ghosh (72-ball 54) looked to have it in her to give a fight as India were reduced ti 45/2 in the 11th over.
After Smriti Mandhana (9) and Harleen Deol (12) departed cheaply, Ghosh and Harmanpreet (38) added 66 runs off 69 balls to give India hope.
But once Ghosh was bowled by Alana King in the 22nd over, India’s innings unravelled, as Harmanpreet was dismissed by Megan Schutt a few overs.
Deepti Sharma (10) was sent back by Ashleigh Gardner and Jemimah Rodrigues fell to Sophie Molineux. Annabel Sutherland was Australia’s most successful bowler with 4/40.
