‘Warrior & Tiger’: The meaning behind centurion Nitish Kumar Reddy’s popular tattoos

New Delhi: Indian youngster Nitish Kumar Reddy has garnered the limelight with his gritty knock against Australia in the ongoing fourth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The 21-year-old played a quintessential innings to bail out the visitors from a precarious position, notching up his maiden Test century in just his fourth match.

Nitish walked into bat for India when they were 191 for 6 and soon the score turned to 221 for 7 after the dismissal of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The youngster has been spot on with his cameos in the lower-order, providing the team some imperative runs to add to a respectable total. On Saturday, he was unbeaten on 105 at the MCG, pulverising 10 boundaries and a six to stage a remarkable fightback against the hosts.

The Andhra all-rounder has amassed 284 runs at an average of 71 in this series thus far, which is the most by an Indian batter in this five-match Test series. He is only behind Australian batter Travis Head’s tally of 409 runs among the two teams.

Nitish explains meaning of his tattoos

Nitish has idolised star Indian batter Virat Kohli while growing up, and if there’s something that captures his mind of the former captain’s gameplay then it is the vociferous manner of celebrating the centuries. There is one thing akin between the two and that is the portrayal of tattoos on their bodies. Nitish has also put an attractive tattoo on his right shoulder which has extended to his hand.

Just during his India Test debut in Perth, the youngster was asked about the rationale behind his tattoo creation. He replied to Australian brodcaster Channel 7, saying it denotes the combination of a warrior and tiger.

“Whenever I see the tattoo, I just want to feel like you’re the warrior when you’re playing in the centre. So when a tiger makes his territory in the jungle, so it doesn’t allow any other animal or any other thing to come in that,” Nitish said.

“So that’s how I want to feel. Like when you’re in the centre, you need to be like you’re the king. So that’s how I want to be,” he added.

Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a magnificent maiden Test century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Inspired by Virat Kohli, Nitish’s impressive performance adds to his already strong series tally, making him a rising star in Indian cricket. His unique tattoo, symbolizing a warrior and tiger, reflects his aggressive playing style.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
