New Delhi: Rhythmic gymnastics is one of the best sports to watch live. Spectators at the Paris 2024 Olympics were treated to one such routine that left them saying they’ve ‘never seen anything like it before’.
The women’s rhythmic individual all-around competition kick-started on Thursday (8 August) in the Adidas Arena with the qualification stage ahead of Friday’s final.
In rhythmic gymnastics, athletes have four routines to complete and they are tasked with producing their best performances with the ball, hoop, clubs, and ribbon. The aggregate score of the four routines is then added up to create a final total
The routine we’re talking about was presented on Thursday during the hoop round by Ukraine’s Taisiia Onofriichuk. Her performance left viewers stunned with those watching on gasping in amazement.
The 16-year-old Ukrainian made the routine extra special by producing a piece of floor work to the beat of Michael Jackson’s epic hit ‘Thriller’.

In what was a remarkable performance, Onofriichuk used the entire floor space to perform with the hoop, seamlessly spinning it around her body and up and over her limbs.
The Ukranian also threw the hoop up to nine metres in the air and caught it blindly with feet and legs on multiple occasions.
The crowd went wild when the youngster incorporated classic dance moves from the ‘Thriller’ music video, including the iconic zombie dance scene.
The young gymnast’s performance left the netizens awestruck.
This was her performance to make it into the finals! Her story may also tug at your heart strings as she didn’t think she’d make it to this as their practice facility was near bombings in Kiev. She couldn’t hear the music over the attacks most days. 🥺
