New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma were involved in a heated clash with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi during the clash between the two sides at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Monday. Abhishek was left unhappy and had a go at Rathi after the spinner dismissed him during the game.
Abhishek got SRH off to a flying start in the 206-run chase at the Ekana Stadium with a blistering half-century. The swashbuckling left-hander dominated the LSG bowlers in the Powerplay despite losing his opening partner Atharva Taide cheaply on 13 and raced to his fifty off just 18 balls with a hat-trick of sixes against Ravi Bishnoi in the 7th over.
Abhishek was dismissed by Rathi in the next over and finished with a quickfire 59 off just 20 balls, laced with an impressive six sixes and 4 fours. After dismissing the dangerous left-hander, Digvesh pulled off his ‘signature’ celebration, which sparked a heated clash between the duo. Abhishek was unhappy as he had a verbal exchange with Rathi before the duo were separated by the umpires and the LSG players.

This is not the first time Rathi has garnered headlines for his ‘signature’ celebration, as he has been fined twice by the BCCI for the same this season. Nonetheless, the LSG spinner continues to use it after dismissing batters and has been enjoying a great debut season for the franchise. The Delhi spinner, who considers Sunil Narine his inspiration, has picked up 13 wickets in 12 matches for LSG so far this season.
Abhishek Sharma takes LSG bowlers to the cleaners
Meanwhile, Abhishek stepped up for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the absence of Travis Head to take the LSG bowlers to the cleaners en route to his brisk 20-ball 59 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Abhishek notched up his second fifty of the season to get SRH off to a fiery start in their 206-run chase and compensated for Head’s absence.
It was the fourth instance when the aggressive left-handed ended up getting to his fifty in less than 20 balls, which is the joint-most by any batter in the league. Abhishek shared a crucial 82-run stand with Ishan Kishan (35) for the third wicket to set the stage for a comfortable chase for SRH. Though SRH are already out of the race for the playoffs, they would be hoping to secure a victory to end the tournament on a high.
