WATCH: Ben Stokes spots his doppelganger in stands during ENG vs SL 1st Test, reaction goes viral

New Delhi: Although England’s Test captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out for the English summer, he is making sure to keep an eye on his team from off the field. In the first Test between England and Sri Lanka, being played at the Old Trafford in Manchester, Ollie Pope is leading the English side. The man was strikingly similar to Stokes in terms of appearance whose video soon went viral on the internet, The netizens called him a doppelganger of the English skipper as his hairstyle and face cut matched that of Stokes. He was seen sitting calmly during the match, wearing “Stokesy” eyeglasses and the jersey as well. Soon as he realised he was on the camera, he got up and removed his jacket to flaunt his jersey’s back on which “Stokesy” was printed.

What followed was a priceless reaction from Stokes who spotted his doppelganger after he was shown on the big screen at the stadium. There was a beaming smile on Stokes’ face who first gave him a thumbs up and as he showed his jersey off to the crowd, Stokes couldn’t control his laughter.

Not the first time!

However, this wasn’t the first time that the fan appeared in an England Test match. Last month, as England hosted West Indies for a Test series, the same doppelganger appeared during the fourth day of the Nottingham Test to which Stokes had given a hilarious reaction. He was sitting beside Paul Collingwood who too was left in splits. The audience sitting around the fan cheered and applauded him and the incident was equally loved by the crowd and the commentators who were heard sharing a laugh in the commentary box as well.

Stokes was ruled out for the remainder of the English summer which included this two-match Test series against Sri Lanka as well. It was due to a tear in his left hamstring which he sustained while playing in The Hundred for Northern Superchargers. England opted not to name a replacement for Stokes in their team for the Sri Lanka series.
