New Delhi: India skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were the major sights to behold after India ended the long-standing knockout jinx to clinch the T20 World Cup 2024. The flow of emotions didn’t stop for once from the moment India beat South Africa in the crucial final held at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday. It was India’s second T20 World Cup and the fourth overall as Rohit Sharma and co. ended the long 11-year wait to lift the ICC silverware.
The huge win for India brought numerous emotions forth as it all started with Hardik Pandya being teary-eyed as his teammates consoled him. Pandya was one of the heroes of the final who turned the tide for India just when it all looked seemingly impossible. After the win, even Rohit couldn’t hold back his emotions as he finally delivered India an ICC trophy under his leadership.
It is well-known how desperately he wanted an ICC trophy for India and the moment he achieved it, emotions knew no boundaries for him. He laid on the ground to punch it continuously in joy and hugged his teammates thereafter. As it turned out to be, one such hug stood apart from the rest as it was the two Indian veterans Rohit and Kohli who embraced each other to make it a hug for a lifetime.
Rohit was visibly in tears in the dressing room and just as Kohli approached him, both shared another long hug which told a lot about what the World Cup win meant for them both.

Rohit and Kohli retire from T20Is
Just when Kohli was called up to receive the Player of the Match award, for his crucial and match-winning knock of 76 runs, Kohli announced it to the world that it was his last T20 World Cup and his last T20 game for India as well. He was trying to hold back emotions for which he even talked about and not much later, the Indian fans were struck with another heart-breaking news.
At the post-match press conference, Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is as well which brought an end to an era of Indian cricket. Amid the celebrations of the momentous win, no one really thought that such news was on the cards but for the veterans, the moment was apt to call time on the shortest format and pave the way for the next generation.
