New Delhi: Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir sought blessings at the Maa Kamakhya temple in Guwahati on Sunday as he gears up for a challenging tour of England next month. Gambhir will be in charge as India look to embark on a new era in Test cricket with Shubman Gill leading the side after the departures of senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Rohit and Kohli retired from Test cricket within a week earlier this month, marking the end of an era in Indian cricket. A young, inexperienced side under Gill and Gambhir will take on hosts England in a tricky five-match Test series that is set to get underway on June 20. While Gill has been appointed captain, the selectors have handed maiden Test call-ups to Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh for the series.
All eyes will be on Gambhir, who will face the exigent task of getting the best out of the young players in the squad and helping a relatively inexperienced Indian side give a run for money to the hosts in difficult conditions in England. Ahead of the team’s departure to England, Gambhir visited the Maa Kamakhya temple.
