New Delhi: With days nearing to the start of the first Bangladesh Test, Team India players are sweating it out in the humid sun of Chennai where the game is scheduled. Now that the game is less than two days away, the intensity of the Indian players has continuously been rising. A similar was on display during the Monday practice session at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium as the fielding coach T Dilip decided to hold a unique fielding drill.
Although it remains well known how crucial the fielding aspect is in any format of the game when it comes to saving runs, one has to be at the top of their game. The agility and the energy has to be unmatched when going after the ball. After going through the regular batting and bowling practice, the Indian team challenged themselves in a competitive fielding drill, the video of which was shared by the BCCI on their social media handle.
In the video, the likes of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were seen taking part in some specific drills, being placed at the slips and short leg to check on their reflexes in taking low catches. Meanwhile, wicketkeepers Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel took part in the keeping drills but the unique part of the video was surely when the team was equally divided by Dilip.
Dilip said that the motive of the drill was to keep the players’ intensity up and not focus much on the missed catches. Abhishek Nayar, the batting coach, helped the team in making the hits and the players catching the ball. The next drill saw the team getting divided with each of their respective roles and the team that missed less number of catches was declared the winner.
