WATCH: Mayank Yadav scalps maiden wicket on debut, sends BAN veteran packing

New Delhi: Making his debut for Team India, pace sensation Mayank Yadav got into action quickly as he bagged his maiden international wicket in the second over of his spell itself. Featuring in the first T20I clash between India and Bangladesh that is being played at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, Mayank didn’t take much time to claim the spotlight that was quite expected of him.

It is noteworthy that the first over that he bowled in the match turned out to be a maiden. It was an amazing start for him as he bowled his debut over as a maiden… that too the last over of the powerplay i.e. sixth over. Soon in the next over of his spell (8th over). Yadav struck on the second delivery. The experienced Bangladesh batter Mahmudullah was on the strike and threw his wicket away, giving Mayank a bright start in his career.

It is rightly said that pace can make one do strange things and similar was the case here. Mayank clocked 146.1 kmph and the right-hander danced down the track, moving leg side to push it over the off side. It was a short-length ball that Mahmudullah sliced in the air and it was nothing but a dolly for Washington Sundar at deep point. The 38-year-old could only score one off two balls.

Soon after the wicket, Arshdeep Singh ran close to Mayank to congratulate him for his maiden wicket in international cricket, celebrating with him.

Bowling his debut over in T20I cricket as a maiden, the 22-year-old joined his teammate and former India pacer Ajit Agarkar for a record. All three players have bowled their forst over in T20I career as a maiden. Agarkar did it against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2006 while Arshdeep Singh did it in Southampton against England in 2022.
