New Delhi: Tempers flared during a match between India and Pakistan at the Junior Davis Cup in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, following the former’s comprehensive 2-0 win in the U-16 tournament.
India edged past bitter rivals Pakistan in the Junior Davis Cup on May 24 after India’s Prkaash Sarran and Tavish Pahwa won their singles matches in the super tie-break to claim a comfortable win for the team.
Three days after the match, a video from the game went viral online, sparking a massive controversy. The video clip shows a Pakistani player shaking hands aggressively with an Indian player following the loss. Frustrated by the defeat, the Pakistani U16 player took a swipe at the Indian player after failing to do the post-match handshake properly.
He repeated the action, but aggressively, before abruptly shaking off the Indian player’s hand in a disrespectful manner. Meanwhile, the Indian player, acted maturily and chose to remain calm in a tense situation.

The video sparked outrage on social media with fans slamming the unruly behaviour of the Pakistani player.

The shocking gesture by the Pakistan player shows the frustration, anger and desperation in the neighbouring nation after India launched “Operation Sindoor” – targetting nine terror camps, in Pakistan and POK on May 7, killing over 100 terrorists, in retaliation to the horrific April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 26 civilians.
In response, Pakistan launched drone attacks on several Indian cities, but all the attacks were foiled by India’s powerful air defence system. India responded by destroying several air bases in Pakistan by launching precision strikes.
After three days of intense cross-border military action, both countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.
