New Delhi: Legendary Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan displayed his batting prowess in MI New York’s eliminator encounter against Texas Super Kings (TSK) in the ongoing Major League Cricket 2024 season. The Faf du Plessis-led Super Kings swept aside MI New York by nine wickets to seal a spot in the qualifier 2.
However, Rashid, in MI’s disappointing show, stood out with his exemplary show hammering a sensational knock of 55 to get his side out of trouble for some time. After put into bat first, MI were off to a shaky start losing early wickets but the team did a fantastic job to promote Rashid up the order which proved to be a masterstroke. He smashed 55 runs to power them to a respectable total.
The Afghanistan star, enroute his special knock, showcased glimpses of AB de Villiers and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, playing few shots similar to how the veteran cricketers’ played. He took only 30 balls to smash his blistering knock, which was studded with four boundaries and as many sixes. In his innings, he played several beautiful shots but his aerial shot over the backward point and a helicopter shot mesmerised everyone, which was akin to de Villiers and Dhoni.

Besides putting up a memorable batting show, Rashid also had a good day with the ball, conceding 22 runs off his four overs. However, his valiant all-round effort went in vain, with TSK chasing the 164-run target easily, riding on clinical fifties from Devon Conway and Faf du Plessis.
