New Delhi: Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior was sent off the field after he received his third red card of his career on Friday night’s clash against Valencia. The disaster struck in the 79th minute while appealing for a penalty. Vinicius was involved in a controversial collision with the Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski. In a heated reaction, the Brazilian winger was struck in the face, for which, after the VAR review, he was issued a red card.
Vinicius left the pitch, leaving Madrid with a mountain to climb as they trailed 1-0 down and were reduced to 10 men. Though he had to be restrained by his teammates after he attempted to go after the referee, Carlo Ancelotti’s side fought back in a dramatic fashion from there on and secured a victory by a scoreline of 1-2 to claim first spot in the standings.

After the match, Vinicius took time to apologise on social media. On his official X account, he posted, “Sorry and thank you, team!!!!!!” followed by several victory emojis. So far this season, the 24-year-old has been in impressive form, scoring eight goals and registering seven assists.

How many matches will Vinicius miss?
Vinicius Junior is set to miss the Copa del Rey round of 32 matches against Deportiva Minera for now. Still, if this incident gets categorized as aggressive under Article 103 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code, then Vinicius could face a lengthy ban of four gamers. If the incident is viewed as less severe, then a suspension of only two or three matches will be imposed.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has stated that they will appeal against Vinicius Junior’s red card, as they believe it was two yellows, not a red.
