How Tendulkar and Kambli saw different paths in their cricket journeys
Tendulkar and Kambli definitely trained under the same coach in Mumbai, but never had the same journey. On one hand Tendulkar dominated the international stage by setting ample of batting records in Tests and One-Day International cricket, Kambli didn’t make a longer career at the same level.
Kambli only played 17 Tests and 104 One-Day Internationals for India between 1991 and 2000. He started off his career brilliantly with back-to-back double-centuries coming against England (224 at Wankhede) and Zimbabwe (227 at the erstwhile Feroz Shah Kotla). He couldn’t maintain the consistency with his scores, failing to score a half-century in his last 10 innings.
Tendulkar is the highest run-getter in both Tests (15921) and ODIs (18426) while Kambli made 1084 runs in 21 Test innings and 2477 runs in 97 ODI innings.
