WATCH: T Dilip sharpens Team India’s fielding skills ahead of IND vs BAN T20I series

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is putting in the hard yards to gear up for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. With a dedicated focus on the batting and bowling skills, the team is equally giving efforts and sweating it out for the fielding part. It is well known that other than the two main aspects of the game, fielding is the next crucial part of a game when it comes to saving runs.

A tight fielding during the game means one won’t be leaking runs when the batter runs between the wickets or the extras like overthrows and byes. T Dilip, who continues his role as the fielding coach for the Indian cricket team, held a strenuous session for the team, where he made them perform two specific drills in order to sharpen their fielding for the Bangladesh series.

In a video that was shared by the BCCI, Team India was seen practicing for run-outs where Dilip hit the ball grounded and the players one by one took their chances to pick it up in a quick manner and throw it into a small net which was placed as the target. The likes of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and many other squad members enhanced their skills.

Before taking the field, Dilip in the team huddle briefed everyone about what is he particularly eyeing for the day and what exactly he required from the team. “Get your feet where you are throwing, as simple as that. I’m not looking at intensity but rhythm and flow is something we have to achieve today and once we break to that, we’ll move and take 15 catches,” Dilip said.

In the air… taken!

The team then moved to the next drill, which was taking catches. All of it happened under the sharp eye of head coach Gautam Gambhir who was analysing each player taking part in the session. He even lauded Abhishek Sharma for his quick response towards picking the ball saying “Shabash Abhi (Well done Abhishek).” Dilip with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate helped the team with taking catches as they played shots in the air which each player took hold of.

At the end of the video, Ravi Bishnoi was seen taking a stunner as he dived to his left to grab the fast-paced ball. His quick response and effort even made his senior Pandya appreciate him with a sporty gesture. Team India will be playing Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series that is set to begin on October 6 in Gwalior at the newly-built New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium.
