New Delhi: Former skipper Darren Sammy will become the West Indies cricket team’s all-format coach from April of next year, it was announced on Monday. Sammy will take charge of the team from April 1, 2025, while continuing to lead coaching duties for the white-ball teams.
Sammy will replace Andre Coley as the head coach of the red-ball side, Cricket West Indies’ director of cricket Miles Bascombe said during a press conference in St. Vincent.
The former West Indies captain replaces Andre Coley as the head coach of the red-ball side. As skipper, Sammy guided West Indies to two T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016.
He was praised for re-shaping the white-ball teams and delivering promising results since taking charge in 2023.
“It’s an honour to represent the West Indies in any capacity,” Sammy said in a post by the Windies cricket board on X.
Sammy also added that he is ready for the challenge to help the Test team.
