India and South Africa were placed in Group 2 of the 2022 T20 World Cup and locked horns in Perth on October 30. The Men in Blue won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the decision did not go in their favour as openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were dismissed inside the power play. Lungi Ngidi claimed his third victim in Virat Kohli before Suryakumar Yadav’s 68-run knock steered India to a respectable 133 runs total.
The total set by India was below par but Mohammad Shami’s tight spell forced Proteas to take a cautious approach. Arshdeep removed de Kock and Rossouw to reduce SA to 24/3 in the powerplay. However, Aiden Markram and David Miller’s resistance foiled Indian bowlers’ plans as both got half-centuries. The match was pushed into the final over where Miller slammed a boundary off the glove and finished with a four to win the game by five wickets.
