New Delhi: Sarfaraz Khan made a brilliant Test debut for Team India during the five-match series against England earlier this year. He scored 500 runs at an average of 50 in five innings.
Sarfaraz got the opportunity to make his debut for India because of KL Rahul’s injury. Rahul played the first Test match but missed the rest of the series due to injury. Both cricketers are part of the Test squad to face Bangladesh in the two-match Test series.
But former India cricketer Kris Srikanth backed KL Rahul to play the first Test of the series ahead of Sarfaraz Khan. Srikanth said that he feels bad for Sarfaraz but when a senior player returns to the team, he will get the opportunity to play. He also said that Rahul will be a key player for India during the Test series against New Zealand and Australia because he has done well against both teams.
“Honestly, I feel bad for Sarfaraz Khan. But, this happens, at times, in Test cricket. You would have been playing well but when a big player returns, you will have to lose your place. Take for instance, Rishabh Pant is returning because of which Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan are losing their places. KL Rahul is coming in” Srikanth said on YouTube.
“At the back of the mind, they are also keeping the Australia series. New Zealand are also coming. KL Rahul has performed well overseas, in Australia he has done well” he added.
Rahul played well during the first Test against England earlier this year. He scored 86 and 22, playing the lone warrior’s role for Team India. Rahul and Sarfaraz played against each other during the Duleep Trophy opener. Rahul scored 37 and 57 for India A while Sarfaraz scored only 9 runs in the first innings but responded with crucial 46 runs in the second innings.
