New Delhi: India’s javelin ace Neeraj Chopra is all set for his second competition of the 2025 season as he participates in the Janusz Kusociński Memorial athletics meet, scheduled at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Poland, on Friday. After finally breaking the 90-metre hoodoo at the Doha Diamond League a week before, Neeraj will aim to continue the momentum and better his new personal record at the Polish athletic event.
The 27-year-old Indian will be one of the eight men taking part in the men’s javelin throw event as he will again be up against Germany’s Julian Weber, who trumped him at the Doha Diamond League. Despite a brilliant throw of 90.23 metres in his third attempt, Neeraj finished second in Doha, courtesy of Weber’s throw of 91.06 metres, which he scaled in his final attempt.
For both the athletes, it was their respective maiden 90+ metre throw. The two will be part of a star-studded lineup as two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada also takes part in the event. Other throwers, Marcin Krukowski (Poland), Cyprian Mrzyglod (Poland), Dawid Wegner (Poland), Andrian Mardare (Moldova), and Artur Felfner (Ukraine), will complete the eight-man field.
The event is a part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver and was first held in 1954, becoming Poland’s oldest track and field competition. It is named after the legendary Polish Olympic champion Janusz Kusocinski.
Following this event, Chopra will feature at the Golden Spike 2025 athletics meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on June 24 and will also be prepping for the World Championships in Tokyo this September, eyeing to defend his title.
Neeraj Chopra is all set for his 2nd competition of the season. The 2-time Olympic medallist, after reaching the 90-metre mark in Doha Diamond league recently, will take on the World’s best at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet in Poland tonight from 9:45 PM onwards.… pic.twitter.com/v0VXkJJNmA
