New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket after the Brisbane Test. He picked up more than 750 wickets across all three formats of the game. He was spotted at the Chennai airport on Thursday morning.
The social media was flooded with congratulatory messages for the 38-year-old on an illustrious career. The off-spinner has revealed he received calls from India’s two legendary cricketers – Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev on the day of his retirement.
He shared a picture on X and wrote “If someone told me 25 years ago that I would have a smart phone with me and the call log on the last day of my career as an Indian cricketer would look like this, I would have had a heart attack then only. Thanks @sachin_rt and @therealkapildev paaji”.

Tendulkar also shared a message on social media and called Ashwin one of India’s finest match-winners and added how his legacy will serve as an inspiration to everyone. Tendulkar said that he always admired how Ashwin approached the game with his mind and heart in perfect sync. He further added that true greatness lies in never being afraid to experiment and evolve.
Ashwin received heart-warming messages after retirement
After retirement, Ashwin has received a lot of tributes from fans, and current and former cricketers. His teammates Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and coach Gautam Gambhir also posted heartfelt messages for the former spinner. He finished his career as one of the biggest match-winners India have ever produced. He is the second-highest wicket-taking Indian bowler after Anil Kumble. He picked up 537 wickets and scored six centuries in Test cricket.
He was a part of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy winning teams. Ashwin also won the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Men’s Test Cricket of the Year awards in 2016.
