New Delhi: Zimbabwe cricketer Clive Madande broke a 90-year old unwanted Test record on the second day of the one-off Test match against Ireland on Friday. The 24-year-old wicket-keeper conceded as many as 42 byes in a single Test innings, surpassing the previous unwanted record of 37 byes conceded by England’s Les Ames way back in 1934.
The runs given by the Zimbabwe wicket-keeper proved out to be more than Ireland’s 40-run lead in the first inning as they made 250 in reply to Zimbabwe’s score of 210 runs. The byes conceded by Madande were not his fault totally as he had to deal with the late swing deliveries bowled by the bowlers, several of which went down the leg side.
For the first time in 147-years of cricket history, a wicket-keeper has conceded more than 40 byes in a Test match.
