Who will replace Jay Shah as BCCI secretary if he becomes the new ICC chief? Possible candidates

New Delhi: Jay Shah has proved his might as an administrator in the Indian cricket and now the BCCI secretary is almost set to become the new ICC chairman. While nothing can be guaranteed as of now but it seems like Shah will sweep the elections unopposed after current chief Greg Barclay opted out to continue as the ICC boss for the third term.

Shah is supposed to have the backing of 15 out of 16 members in the ICC Board but has less than 96 hours to decide if wants to make the move when he still has one year left in his second consecutive term as BCCI secretary. The BCCI secretary has shown his willingness for the same as multiple media reports and news regarding him taking over the chair have been doing rounds.

The new ICC chairman will take charge on December 1, and the last date for filing nomination is August 27. The mandatory three-year cooling off period to make a come back to the richest cricket board will start for Shah after completion of his term in October 2025. But there is a question as to who will replace Shah in BCCI if he becomes the new ICC chairman.

Let’s look at the possible candidates

Rajiv Shukla: Current vice-president of the BCCI Rajiv Shukla is a possible candidate who can fill in the shoes of Shah. Shukla, who is also a Congress MP in Rajya Sabha, would not mind becoming a secretary as the designation of a BCCI vice-president does not have much command and authority.

Arun Dhumal: Arun Dhumal is another name who can be asked by the board to become the secretary. The IPL chairman possesses the required expertise which can be handful in working on the designation. He has been a treasurer and now heads cash-rich league.

Ashish Shelar: Maharashtra BJP heavyweight Ashish Shelar, who is BCCI treasurer and big name in MCA administration. Shelar however is a consummate politician and BCCI secretaryship is a time consuming job, However, being an influential name, he could be in the mix.

Among the younger administrators, there is DDCA president Rohan Jaitley or former CAB president Avishek Dalmiya, whose names could come up for discussion.
