New Delhi: Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that Australia hold an upper edge over India in the upcoming third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Brisbane. The veteran cricketer said that after their victory in the pink ball Test match at Adelaide, they have the momentum in hand that will help them in the next contest at The Gabba.
Australia leveled the five-match series 1-1 after a 10 wicket victory in the day-night Test after losing the series opener against India in Perth. He further said that the momentum the Aussies got after a 10-day gap between the first and the second Test is fantastic and will help them in the upcoming game. As far as India are concerned, they lost the advantage they gained after the Perth Test match.
“After the Adelaide Test, a few days later, you are playing at The Gabba. So, the momentum is now with the Australian team,” he added.
India should play their best game in Brisbane: Harbhajan
Speaking to the same channel, former Indian off spinner Harbhajan Singh said that Indian should try to play their best game and register a win at the Gabba before moving ahead to Sydney and Melbourne, where the fourth and fifth Test match would be help respectively.
“Their best chances will be, I think, in Sydney and Melbourne. Anyway, if you play your best cricket at The Gabba and win there, then you will definitely win one match out of Melbourne or Sydney,” Harbhajan said.
From here, India will have to win all the three matches if they aim to qualify for the World Test Championship Final next year. If they fail to do so and go down in any of the upcoming Tests, their scenario will get complicated as they will have to rely on other teams performances and results to secure a favourable position.
