New Delhi: The final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 is just a day away. The two best teams from the event, India and Sri Lanka, have made it to the summit clash on back of a sensational performance in the entire event. The Indian women’s team, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, has been clinical in the event so far.
The dominant Indian side, which stormed into the the final of the event for the ninth time, are just a win away from bagging a second consecutive Asia Cup title. India notched up wins after wins destroying their opponents convincingly to enter the summit clash. The Women in Blue thrashed Bangladesh by 10 wickets for a place in the final. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in another semifinal on the same day to book the clash against India.
The final game, which is scheduled for Sunday in Dambulla, was rescheduled just a day ahead of the clash.
Why was the final rescheduled?
The final was scheduled to take place at 7 PM IST on Sunday and has now been rescheduled for 3 PM IST start. Reason behind this is that the second T20I match between India men’s team and Sri Lanka is also scheduled to take place on Sunday at the same time. So as to avoid a clash between the two games, the Asia Cup final was preponed and will now take place 4 hours earlier than the scheduled time.
The broadcasters feel that with the kind of hype for the bilateral series between India and Sri Lanka, it will generate more revenue and views than the Women’s Asia Cup final so they decided to reschedule it. India women, who are seven time champions of the Asia Cup, will be gunning for their eight title against the island nation on Sunday.
