Why is Kieran Trippier benched for England against Spain in UEFA Euro 2024 final?

New Delhi: English full-back Kieran Trippier will not feature in the starting XI of Spain vs. England in the UEFA Euro 2024 final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. The 33-year-old has been an important part of Gareth Southgate’s English lineup for some time now and has established himself as an important player in the Three Lions setup in major tournaments.

In a scenario with no proper, fully fit left-back, Trippier filled that position despite being a right-back. He started in all three group-stage games. However, with Luke Shaw returning to the lineup, Southgate has decided to bench the Newcastle United player. Shaw will return to the side after being on the sideline for the last three games and finds himself in the starting XI after a long-term injury.

England are taking on Spain, who won all six of the games in this tournament and are now one game away from winning their fourth Euro title. England, on the other hand, arrive in the final of the tournament after trial by fire.

The English defender won’t feature in the starting XI against Spain. Luke Shaw is starting instead of him.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
