Why James Anderson could be a good fit for CSK in IPL 2025, explains Michael Vaughan

New Delhi: Retired England pacer James Anderson could an ideal fit for five time-champions Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 Indian Premier League, says Michael Vaughan.

Anderson retired from Test cricket earlier in the year after a record haul of 704 wickets for a fast bowler in 188 matches. He has since registered himself for the IPL auctions that is scheduled to be held later this month.

The 42-year-old has said that he is convinced he is fit and motivated enough to continue playing and since he has never played in the glamour tournament, he wants to give it a shot.

Former England skipper Vaughan believes Anderson would be apt for a team like CSK, which has always preferred to have a swing bowler like him at headline their attack.

“You mention James Anderson, I would not be surprised if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai Super Kings,” Vaughan said on a podcast named Club Prairie Fire Podcast that also had former Australia keeper Adam Gilchrist.

“They are a team that like someone who can swing it inside the first few overs. They have always had a swinger, whether it is Shardul Thakur or someone else. It would not surprise me if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai.”

Anderson had consciously stayed away from T20 cricket to prolong his Test career. His last T20 appearance was in 2014 and he has never played in any franchise T20 league.

Anderson has a base price of Rs 1.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auctions and has said that he enrolled his name to increase his knowledge about T20 franchise cricket that is in vogue nowadays.

“There is still definitely something in me that thinks like I can still play. I have never done the IPL; I have never experienced it and I think for a number of reasons I feel like I have more to give as a player,” Anderson told last week while speaking at a BBC Radio podcast.

“I have done a little bit of coaching since I have finished in the summer. I have been around the England team doing a bit of mentoring or whatever you like to call it.

“I just think opening my eyes to something like that and experiencing it, sort of might help me grow my knowledge of the game and help further down the line,” he added.

The IPL mega auctions will be held November 24 and 25 in Jeddah for which over 1500 players have been registered.
