New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is gearing up for the three-match T20 International series against Bangladesh after sweeping the Test series 2-0 this week. The first T20I will be played at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on Sunday, October 6. This will mark the return of international cricket in Gwalior after 14 years.
A new-look T20I team won’t feature any of the member who participated in the Test series as the selectors are keeping the workload of players in mind ahead of the grueling Border-Gavaskar Trophy later in the year.
Suryakumar Yadav will be tasked with his second assignment as the captain of the T20I side. Senior all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be another prominent member, who was part of the T20 World Cup winning team in June, to feature in the T20Is against their Asian neighbours.
Hardik hit the nets on Thursday to commence his preparations for the short bilateral series. His bowling action was assessed by new bowling coach Morne Morkel. The former South African pacer was unhappy with the star Indian all-rounder’s bowling approach.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Morkel pointed out Pandya towards his release points as the two worked closely in the first session of net practice. Morkel was seen giving Pandya inputs in regular intervals while working on the player’s bowling run-up.
Will Hardik Pandya play any red-ball cricket this season?
A lot of speculations have taken place about Hardik Pandya’s possible return to Test cricket after the 30-year-old was seen practicing with a red ball in a video that has been widely circulated across social media platforms. This also adds to India’s look for a fast-bowling all-rounder for the Australia Test series Down Under.
However, former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel dismissed the speculations of Pandya’s return to the Test format, saying that the practice with the red ball was as a result of unavailability of a white ball.
