New Delhi: Donald Trump has a tradition of attending UFC events as he is a true fan of combat sports. UFC is also returning to Madison Square Garden in New York for their upcoming event. The UFC 309 pay-per-view will be headlined by UFC Heavyweight champions Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.
Recently, Trump became the new US president by defeating Kamala Harris. UFC CEO Dana White is a close friend of Trump and he also gave a speech after Trump was elected as the president. When Trump attended UFC events, he made the event bigger and he was also admired by the UFC crowd.
Michael Chandler and Bo Nickal, the two fighters in the UFC 309 card have believed that Trump will make it to the event and will be seen in the iconic MSG. Chandler stated that he would be depressed if Trump lost the election but now he won the election and it will be fun to watch him in the cage side.
“I think he’s gonna be there, he told me a couple of times that he’s gonna be there. He’s the President. … I’m sure that if he’s not (at UFC 309), there was something else that was more important.” Nickal said.
Trump at UFC events
When Trump was elected president for the first time in 2016, he attended the UFC event in November 2019 at UFC 244 event. He was also the first sitting US president to attend the UFC event live. After that, Trump attended UFC 264 in Las Vegas which is headlined by Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.
When the election was near, Trump was also seen in the UFC event at UFC 287 in April 2023 in Miami. After that, he also appeared in UFC 295 which is his second appearance in 2023.
The last time he was seen in the cage was in UFC 299 which was headlined by Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera.
