New Delhi: French footballer Wissam Ben Yedder has been found guilty in relation to sexual assaulting a woman. Ben Yedder’s lawyers on Tuesday told the Associated Media that the court has handed the footballer a two-and-a-half-year jail sentence with 18 months in suspension.
Lawyer Marie Roumiantseva, who was representing Ben Yedder noted that the 34-year-old was facing charges of sexual assault under intoxication and was ordered to pay a sum of €5,000 to the victim. The city of Nice court has ordered Yedder to follow his sentence with treatment.

The complainant’s lawyer had said that the victim was in shock and had asked for €25,000 for damages, who had filed the complaint against Ben Yedder back in September. The former Monaco player had been arrested briefly following the incident when he had refused to stop his car. He had to be arrested later on, and his driving license, too, has been suspended for six months.
Following his arrest, he started alcohol detox and even started taking therapy after he himself admitted to driving under the influence. He confessed that he had no recollection of the sexual misconduct.
Wissam Ben Yedder’s playing in Monaco
Since last season, Ben Yedder has been without a club after his contract with Monaco expired. Last season, he scored 16 goals and made three assists and a centre to the club, finishing runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain.
In five seasons with Monaco, he made 201 appearances and scored 118 goals across the competition. For the club, he has been the second-highest scorer, right behind former Argentina player Delio Onnis. For France, he had played 19 times, with his last appearance coming in June 2022. This won’t be Ben Yedder’s first brush with the law as he was charged last year with another rape, attempted rape and sexual assault in the south of France.
