New Delhi: Owners of Pakistan Super League want to be informed about availability of foreign players as it clashes with the Indian Premier League.
The IPL is generally held in the month of April-May while the PSL is held in February-March. But with Pakistan hosting the Champions Trophy in February-March next year, a clash of dates is likely to happen.
It has made the PSL owners worried, forcing them to write a letter to new PSL Director Salman Naseer, requesting him to call a meeting to address their concerns.
“The owners want the PCB to give them clarity which players would be available for the PSL if the IPL is also being held at the same time and also about broadcasting schedules,” a PCB source told PTI.
“The owners are worried because of lack of clarity. The England and Wales Cricket Board and some other boards are talking about restrictions on their players playing in leagues so they want clarity ahead of the PSL players draft.”
Eye on IPL auction
The IPL will hold its auctions on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, before its 2025 edition. PSL owners will keep their eyes peeled on it as they anticipate most top foreign players to be snapped up by IPL franchises.
The PSL owners also feel that since the Pakistan Cricket Board have more important matters at hand, particularly the logjam over scheduling of Champions Trophy as India haves refused to travel to play matches in Lahore.
“Some of the franchise owners have asked Salman Naseer to follow up on the promise of setting up an independent PSL secretariat which has not happened in 10 years.”
Currently, PSL is a six-team tournament that will run for 10 editions after which the PCB and team owners will revisit their agreements and financial bonds.
