WWE star Gunther reflects on nearly quitting pro wrestling

New Delhi: WWE star Gunther reflected on nearly quitting wrestling while working in a day job. He has been one of WWE’s most successful superstars.

Gunther won the WWE King of the Ring on May 25 and also held the Intercontinental Championship for a record 666 days. He is about to challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming WWE SummerSlam.

In a recent interview with CBS Sports, he opened up about the struggles he faced earlier in his pro wrestling career. Gunther said that he had a job and worked only night shifts for nearly three years and did wrestling on the weekends.

“I had a day job working only night shifts for nearly three years and wrestling on the weekends. That took a toll that was hard to sustain. My goal was always to make a living off professional wrestling. That was not in sight, so I thought I should call it quits and focus on a career in my real job” Gunther told CBS Sports.

Gunther joined WWE in 2019 and before that, he mostly wrestled in Europe under the name of Walter. He also said WXW ( Westside Xtreme Wrestling) employed him after he spoke with them and since then wrestling has become his main profession.

“I spoke with WXW and said, ‘Either I run a wrestling school for you, and that’s my job, or I think I call it quits.’ They were happy to do that. They wanted to have a wrestling school. They employed me, and since then, professional wrestling has been my main profession.”

Gunther’s sends a message to Damian Priest

After winning the King of the Ring tournament, Gunther earned himself a World Heavyweight Championship match against Damian Priest. He is in full confidence ahead of the match and sent a social media to his challenger Damian.
