New Delhi: Team India star Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir recently sat down for a candid chat with each other in a video for the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI). The duo who have had their differences in the past, have buried the hatchet after Gambhir was appointed head coach and seem to have been enjoying each other’s camaraderie.
Gambhir and Kohli shared insights into their mindsets in an unfiltered chat, a glimpse of which was shared by the BCCI on social media. During the chat, Gambhir was seen lauding Kohli while also pulling his leg over one of the questions from the star batter. Kohli asked Gambhir how an altercation with the opposition team or players affected his mindset while batting and whether it gave him extra motivation to perform.
Gambhir came up with a hilarious response to the question, leaving Kohli in splits. “When you are batting and you have a bit of a chat with the opposition. Did you ever feel like this might carry on to you getting out of the zone and you potentially getting out or did it put you in a more motivated space,” Kohli asked Gambhir.
“You had more altercations than I had,” replied the India head coach, leaving Kohli stumped. Both Gambhir and Kohli belong to the same category of players, who like to wear their hearts on their sleeves and rarely shy away from giving back to the opposition players. Interestingly, Gambhir and Kohli have also clashed against each other on a few occasions in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kohli, Gambhir put an end to the ‘masala’
A lot was said about how Gambhir and Kohli will gel along in the Indian dressing room after the former India opener was appointed as the team’s new head coach. However, if the recent pictures and videos from India’s training sessions in Chennai are anything to go by, the duo have kept aside all their differences and are enjoying their reunion in the Indian dressing room.
Kohli further affirmed his cordial relationship with Gambhir in BCCI’s video by saying he is “putting an end to all the masala”. Kohli and Gambhir were part of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning team under MS Dhoni. The duo shared a crucial partnership of 83 runs for the third wicket in the final against Sri Lanka to help India register a memorable 6-wicket victory and clinch their second ODI World Cup trophy.
