His mother shared her heart-wrenching experience of losing five of her children before Zanziman was born, describing him as the answer to her prayers.
Unfortunately, Zanziman endured relentless bullying from locals due to his unusual facial features and his condition. His mother revealed that he faced exclusion from school due to his hearing and speaking difficulties. However, hope emerged when a crowdfunding initiative by Afrimax TV aimed to support Zanziman and his family.
The heartwarming news arrived when Zanziman, dubbed ‘real-life Mowgli’, was enrolled in a school for children with special needs at the Ubumwe Community Center in Gisenyi, Rwanda. The community’s generosity allowed Zanziman to don a custom-made suit, replacing the harsh memories of being taunted for his appearance with the joy of attending school.
The crowdfunding initiative’s transformative impact extended further, as thousands of people worldwide contributed to a donation drive for Zanziman’s treatment after a documentary shed light on his story.
Today, Zanziman is believed to be 25 years old, and footage from 2022 showcases him in his school uniform, enjoying a fulfilling life at home with his mother. His remarkable progress and ability to live independently stand as a testament to his resilience and the outpouring of support from communities around the globe.
