ZIM vs IND T20I series: Young guns filled Team India take off for Zimbabwe

New Delhi: A young guns-loaded Team India took off for Zimbabwe on Tuesday for the scheduled five-match T20I series against the Sikandar Raza-led side that starts on July 6. The T20I series will be the first assignment of the Indian team after lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 recently. With most of the senior players rested after completing a hectic schedule, a young India brigade filled with new faces will take on Zimbabwe, being led by Shubman Gill.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a set of pictures on social media of Team India at the airport and a few clicks of them onboard the flight. The BCCI chose VVS Laxman as the coach for the assignment who was also seen travelling with the youngsters. With a few players like Avesh Khan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravi Bishnoi, and Mukesh Kumar, who have already been a part of the national side, fresh faces like Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag were also picked, getting their maiden T20I call-ups.

The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube and Khaleel Ahmed, who are currently in Barbados with the T20 World Cup-winning India squad, might join the new outfit directly after they fly out of Barbados. Gill was however absent from the images shared by the BCCI. The young batter was also part of the travelling reserves for the T20 World Cup squad but was allowed to leave the camp early on. Gill was earlier seen having some time off and also went to watch a Copa America clash that is being held in the US. He could be expected to join the squad directly as well.
