Tee-time at inaugural Indo-Japan golf tournament

Gurgaon: The first Indo-Japan Golf Tournament, aimed at fostering deeper diplomatic and cultural ties between India and Japan, was held at the ITC Classic Golf Resort on November 30.

Organized by Connect India Japan, the event featured a distinguished gathering of diplomats, business leaders and cultural icons from both countries. The tournament is designed not just as a sporting event but as a platform to build collaboration and celebrate shared values through the universal appeal of sports.

The players played remarkably keeping the spectators gripped.
In the 0-8 Handicap Category, Rahul Rai emerged victorious with 34 Stableford points. Former Indian cricketer and acclaimed commentator Murali Karthik secured the runner-up position with 31 points. Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal took the second runner-up spot with 30 points.
In the 9-15 Handicap Category, Karan P. Singh claimed the top honours scoring 31 Stableford points. HBS Gill followed closely, earning the runner-up position with 30 points, while Deepak Negi completed the podium with 29 points.
The 16-24 Handicap Category witnessed an exhilarating finish with a three-way tie at 33 Stableford points. After a countback, Shiv Sahai was declared the winner.

Prominent attendees included G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant and Harinder S. Sikka, Group Director at Piramal Enterprises and author of the bestselling book Calling Sehmat. Sikka, who also produced the National Award-winning film Nanak Shah Fakir, served as the event’s advisor and mentor.

The Tokyo Cup is the brain child of Nupur Tewari. She explained the tournament’s broader significance. “This is more than just a golf game. It’s a celebration of the strong ties between India and Japan. Through this unique collaboration, we aim to forge stronger relationships and promote lasting friendships.”

The tournament also served as a platform for meaningful interactions, encouraging networking and exploring opportunities for business and cultural exchange. It showcases the potential of sports to act as a diplomatic tool, fostering cooperation and understanding between nations.
