Huge payday for India’s Simran Shaikh, G Kamalini at WPL auction

New Delhi: Gujarat Giants used a major chunk of their purse to get uncapped Indian all-rounder Simran Shaikh for Rs 1.9 crore at the Women’s Premier League auction 2025 in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Gujarat Giants had the biggest purse of Rs 4.4 core before the start of the auction and had to buy four slots to fill. They first bid big to snap up West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin for Rs 1.70 crore.

After which, Gujarat also went all out for Simran Shaikh, staving of interest from Delhi Capitals for Rs 1.9 crore. Shaikh had earlier played in the WPL for UP Warriorz, featuring in nine matches, mostly batting in the lower order.

She has a best score of 11 and 29 runs in nine innings.

Bidding war for G Kamalini

There was also intense bidding war for India U-19 opener G Kamalini, who was sold for Rs 1.60 crore to Mumbai Indians, for whom Delhi Capitals also showed significant interest.

Back-and-forth bidding continued between the two teams, for the promising teenager from Tamil Nadu. Kamalini is expected to be in India’s Under-19 World Cup squad in Malaysia next year.

She is an big hitter and played a key role in Tamil Nadu winning the U-19 domestic tournament in October, scoring 311 runs in eight matches.

Kamalini scored 79 to be the top-scorer in India B’s Under-19 tri-series final against South Africa A, after which he was picked for India’s squad for the Under-19 Asia Cup.

Apart from being a hard hitter, Kamalini can also keep wickets and bowls spin. She trains at the Super Kings Academy in Chennai.

Another Indian all-rounder who got big bucks was Prema Rawat, who was bought for Rs 1.20 crore by Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Known for his legspin, and hailing from Uttarakhand, Rawat impressed at the inaugural Uttarakhand Premier League.

Delhi Capitals took in Nandini Kashyap for Rs 10 lakh and N Charani for Rs 55 lakh.
