New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson explained why the franchise signed 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Vaibhav got the spotlight after scoring the fastest century in the U19 Test match against Australia in October.
He smacked his hundred in just 58 balls in his maiden red-ball match for India Under-19. He hit 14 boundaries and four maximums during his explosive knock. He got run out while batting at 104 runs. On the back of his destructive innings, Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought Vaibhav for Rs 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
He is also doing well in the domestic cricket. Vaibhav made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar last season, the batter has now etched his name in history books by becoming the youngest Indian cricketer to play List-A match. He broke the record after making his Vijay Hazare Trophy debut for Bihar against Madhya Pradesh. At the age of 13 years and 269 days, he broke the record of Ali Akbar who made his debut in List A cricket at the age of 14 years and 51 days for Vidarbha.

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson spoke highly of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and said that he has seen his batting highlights and all the people in Rajasthan Royals also saw him bat in the match against Australia where he scored a hundred in just 60-70 balls. He further added that the shots he played there were special and as a franchise, they want those kinds of individuals in the team.
Sanju further added that Rajasthan Royals have a history of buying young players. He gave an example of Yashasvi Jaiswal and said that he joined RR as a youngster but now he is a rockstar of the Indian team.
“I think RR loves that kind of thing – yes, we want to win the IPL, but we also want to make sure that we are giving enough champions to Indian cricket. It will be exciting to meet him” Sanju Samson told AB de Villiers in an interview.
