New Delhi: Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram among six other South African players are set to miss the IPL 2025 playoffs and head back to their nation by May 27 to participate in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. All the eight Proteas players are part of the WTC final squad which will head to the United Kingdom on may 30.
As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, Rabada (Gujarat Titans), Markram (Lucknow Super Giants), Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings), Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals), Lungi Ngidi (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Wiaan Mulder (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch (Mumbai Indians) are the names who will miss then IPL playoffs stage to prioritise the WTC final against Australia.
CSA concludes negotiations with IPL
The report further mentions that Cricket South Africa has has finished negotiations with the IPL about the early release of the players, citing the importance of the WTC final, which will be played at Lord’s against the Aussies. All other South African players not part of the WTC final will remain at the IPL until its conclusion.
BCCI instructs franchises to release players
The BCCI on Thursday instructed the IPL franchises to release eight WTC-bound South African players latest by May 26, making them unavailable for the play-offs. In the advisory to the teams, the Indian cricket board also informed that the West Indies players will be available for the remainder of the tournament which was suspended last week due to India-Pakistan conflict.
Meanwhile, RCB will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the first game in Bengaluru which will be the 58th match of the cash-rich league. Till May 27, the remaining 13 matches will be played while after a day’s gap, the playoffs begin on May 29 with Qualifier 1. The final, which is expected to be held in Ahmedabad, is scheduled to take place on June 3.
