India to play in Pallekele, Colombo against Sri Lanka in white-ball series

New Delhi: Mathches of India’s upcoming white-ball away series against Sri Lanka will be played in Pallekele and Colombo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed on Thursday.

India are scheduled to play three T20Is and three ODIs during their tour across July and August. The series will kick-off through the T20I series will be held entirely at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

The tour begins with the first T20I on July 26, followed by matches July 27 and July 29. After which, the ODI series will be held in Colombo where the 50-over games will be held on August 1, 4, 7 at the R Premadasa International Stadium.

It will be India’s first series since winning the T20I World Cup last month. India will have a new-look to their side with skipper Rohit Sharma, star batter Virat Kohli and ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja retiring from the 20-over internationals after the victory.

India defeated South Africa in the final by seven runs in Barbados to win their secons T20I World Cup title. They will also have a new coach Gautam Gambhir at the helm, who has replaced the departed Rahul Dravid.

India are yet to name who replaced Rohit as the captian thiugh vice-captain Hardik Pandya is expected to be promoted.

Sri Lanka will have have new men in charge as skipper Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down on Thursday before which head coach Chris Silverwood and consultant batting coach Mahela Jayawardene also left.

The home team will be coached former opener and selector Sanath Jayasuriya and will look to turn the tide having exited the T20 World Cup in th group stage and losing to India on both the T20I and ODI series’ in 2021 when Dravid was the stand-in coach and Shikhar Dhawan led a second-string side.
