New Delhi: Star India batter Virat Kohli, who was the first among the India Test squad to arrive in Perth, took part in the first full-fledged training session for India that was held at the WACA Ground on Wednesday. The former India skipper reached the city on Sunday with his family and is set to be a part of the five-Test Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) that begins on November 22.
As per reports, Team India had increased privacy ahead of their Wednesday net session, although the management denied any of the secrecy involved. A report in The West Australian stated that the practice zone was covered with black traps to bar any public viewing. Moreover, heavy restrictions were put on crickt staff members at the venue on filing from inside the ground.
However, a latest report in The West revealed that as soon as the fans heard about Kohli’s arrival at the WACA, they climbed trees while a few set of fans even brought their own ladders to catch a sneak peek of the sporting icon, who might be on his final Australia tour of his career.
Kohli was at absolute ease while batting in the nets on the bouncy Aussie track, relying on his vast experience of the Australian soil where he has played career-defining knocks. The 36-year-old is currently going through a lean patch, having not been at his best run of form lately. He looked comfortable against rising balls and played spin as well.
Other Indian batters on Aussie track
While the likes of Kohli and Rishabh Pant banked on their past experience, they easily adjusted from the dusty home turf to the bouncy Aussie pitches but Sarfaraz Khan displayed every sign of being on his first tour down under. His spot in the squad has been under the scanner after he could only muster 21 runs in the last four innings against New Zealand which also included a duck. He struggled against short balls and chopped the off ones back to his stumps.
Yashasvi Jaiswl and KL Rahul took on Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah while Shubman Gill look quite well against both pace and spin. A second full-fledged training session for Team India es expected on Thursday and the team will also be playing a three-day intra-squad match at the WACA between Friday and Sunday.
Virat Kohli might be on the last Australia tour of his career as his fans gathered outside the WACA Ground in Perth, trying to steal a look of the superstar by reportedly climbing trees and ladders. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
