New Delhi: It was a run fest in Hyderabad as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pulled off the second-highest run chase in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history to beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 8 wickets in IPL 2025 on Saturday, April 12. SRH rode on a blistering knock of 141 runs off just 55 balls from opener Abhishek Sharma to make light work of the huge 246-run target and end their 4-match losing streak in the tournament.
In pursuit of the challenging target, SRH got off to a flying start courtesy of their openers Abhishek and Travis Head, who went after the PBKS bowlers from the word go and dominated the proceedings in the Powerplay. Abhishek raced to his fifty off just 19 balls, while Head continued in his flamboyant approach from the other end as SRH amassed 83 runs in the Powerplay to set the tone for the chase.
The duo went hammers and tongs and smashed the Punjab Kings bowlers all around the park to share a brilliant stand of 171 runs for the first wicket. Head was dismissed after scoring 66 off 37 balls, with Yuzvendra Chahal drawing the first blood for Punjab Kings in the 13th over of SRH’s innings.
It was the second-highest opening partnership in IPL history, and the damage had been done as SRH were in cruise control in the chase at the time of Head’s dismissal. Abhishek went on to complete his century off just 40 balls in the same over and did a unique celebration by waving a chit with the message – “This is for Orange Army”.
